Man with spyware fixes problem by buying new PCs

What if you're an idiot with too much money on your bank account? If it was April Fools Day I'd believe that this is a good hoax: Man with spyware fixes problem by buying new PCs.

At least it's a clear sign for hardware vendors that they should hire virus writers :-)

Didn't Joost Tonino do the same after his computer was infected by some virus?

Yes, he did. He thought it was broken and put it on the street to be taken away by the trash collectors, but instead a taxi driver took the PC with him and delivered it to Peter R. de Vries, a well known crime reporter. And that's when the shit started to hit the fan. (I know you know this, MK, but I'll relate the story here again for the foreign people that don't know this).

First, let me tell you who Joost Tonino is: Joost Tonino _was_ a public prosecutor at the time he dumped the PC. Peter R. de Vries made a television report of what he found on the computer, showing that there was sensitive crime fighting information on it. Shortly after showing the email address Tonino used for his communications, hackers were able to access his email box revealing more private sensitive information.

'Stupid' prosecutor quits after loss of credibility
Child porn on prosecutor's computer
PC-dumping ex-prosecutor mired in teen porn scandal
Denial over paid child porn claims

The thing that really bothers me is the class justice involved in this case. Tonino doesn't get prosecuted because they think he is "punished enough already" and that it couldn't be proved he has _delibarately_ downloaded the child porn. (Yes, we all download child porn by accident). But another man got sentenced for 240 hours of public service because he downloaded accidentally child porn. Here is a babelfish translation of the article. In my not-so-humble opinion I think Tonino deserves the same sentence as the other man, or the other way around. In dutch we would say "je kan niet met twee maten meten" and I think this should be especially in the cases were justice department is involved.
